Joel Lusk was born and raised in Cherokee County and got his start working for an engineering firm, surveying and grading with his brother on large projects throughout the Atlanta area. His journey led him to become a partner in Lusk Construction Inc., a design/build construction company founded by his father in 1976. At the height of the building market, Lusk Construction had over 15 employees and were invested in multiple projects simultaneously – large industrial buildings, banks, churches, medical offices, assisted living facilities, private schools, auto dealerships and many others. Upon the cessation in commercial construction, Joel helped start Brian Construction Group.
Joel married longtime love Robbie Garrison Lusk in 1976, and two years later they found themselves with land in the Macedonia area with dreams to build a home – quite literally. Building the house himself using the timber cut off the land, he had the timber cut at a local sawmill and then he would stack it to dry everyday after work. The Lusks moved into their home in 1980 and have lived there since, raising three sons and now enjoying grandchildren.
Matt Lusk, son of Joel, started out as a teenager working at his dad’s construction company and providing landscaping services during the summer and after school. Upon high school graduation, Matt went to work with his brother – sound familiar? – doing underground utility work such as TV and telephone cable burial. In 2000, he became partner in the company and they quickly expanded into various service offerings such as main line water, storm and sewer installation, etc. By 2004, the business had grown to 15 employees, totaling 3 crews.
Two years later, he went to work for Lusk Construction Inc. as a job superintendent, where he was in charge of multiple commercial buildings from groundbreaking to finish – overseeing all aspects of the job. In 2011, Matt and Joel decided it was time to venture out on their own and started BCG.
Matt has also worked in small real estate investing and developing, grading services and bought and remodeled his first residential property in 1998. He gutted the interior, made many structural improvements and repairs and redesigned aesthetic aspects of the exterior. Soon after finishing and moving in, he was married to Shelly Fields Lusk and started their family. In 2004, needing a larger home for their growing family, Matt bought and remodeled his second home. They are now residing in Cherokee County with their three beautiful children and are preparing to build their dream home on land that Matt grew up playing on as a young child.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
